One of the most efficient strategies to control diabetes and avoid its numerous consequences is to make suitable lifestyle modifications. Walking daily, whether brisk or leisurely, can assist persons with type 2 diabetes to improve their glycemic control.

Several studies support the beneficial effects of physical activity in managing blood sugar levels in diabetes. Frequent physical exercise should be combined with a well-balanced diet, medication, and regular blood sugar testing for optimal outcomes. Tracking the number of steps has proven to motivate people to move throughout the day and track their progress.

Research conducted in India has revealed the advantages of engaging in physical activity for managing diabetes. According to a study published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, walking for 30 to 45 minutes every day for five days a week can enhance glycemic control and lower the chances of complications in people with type 2 diabetes.

A recent study by the Indian Diabetes Prevention Program (IDPP) showed that a well-organized lifestyle intervention, incorporating consistent physical activity such as walking, reduced the onset of diabetes in high-risk individuals in India by 26%.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the World Health Organization (WHO), it is recommended that adults participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. Although cycling, swimming, or dancing can help achieve this goal, for many people, walking is a convenient and easily accessible option.
